The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has introduced a one time settlement (OTS) scheme offering a 90% waiver on interest accrued on property tax arrears.
This initiative aims to provide significant relief to property owners while boosting municipal revenue.
The scheme is applicable exclusively within GHMC limits and requires taxpayers to clear the principal amount along with 10% of the interest by March 31, 2025, to avail of the benefit.

Key Highlights of the GHMC OTS Scheme
- Scope of the Waiver: The scheme offers a 90% waiver on interest for outstanding property taxes. Taxpayers must pay the principal amount and 10% of the interest in one go.
- Revenue Target: GHMC expects this initiative to generate between Rs. 300 crore and Rs. 500 crore for the financial year 2024-25. The overall target for property tax collection this year is Rs. 2,000 crore, out of which Rs. 1,550 crore has already been collected as of March 7, 2025.
- Eligibility: The OTS applies only to properties within GHMC limits and excludes other urban local bodies in Telangana. Property owners who have already cleared their dues, including penalties and interest, will not lose out. Instead, 90% of the interest or penalty paid will be adjusted against future property tax payments.
Property Tax Arrears in GHMC
GHMC currently oversees approximately 19.50 lakh property tax assessments, with around 6.80 lakh properties having arrears totaling Rs. 10,000 crore.
This includes Rs. 3,000 crore in unpaid taxes and Rs. 7,000 crore in accumulated interest. Notably, government owned properties contribute significantly to these arrears, owing around Rs. 5,500 crore.
Addressing Taxpayer Grievances
To assist taxpayers, GHMC has launched a Property Tax Parishkaram program, conducted every Saturday throughout March at all circle offices.
This initiative aims to resolve grievances related to property tax and other issues.
How to Avail the GHMC Property Tax OTS Scheme
For taxpayers looking to benefit from this scheme, understanding the process is crucial:
- Check Outstanding Dues: Property owners can easily search for their GHMC property tax details online using their Property Tax Identification Number (PTIN).
- Make Payments Online: Payments can be made through the GHMC online payment portal, ensuring a hassle-free experience.
- Understand Due Dates and Penalties: Familiarize yourself with GHMC property tax due dates and penalties to avoid additional charges in the future.
Administrative Divisions and Accessibility
GHMC’s jurisdiction is divided into multiple zones, circles, and wards for efficient administration. Property owners can locate their respective GHMC zones, circles, and wards to identify the nearest office for grievance redressal or tax related queries.
A Win Win Initiative
The OTS scheme not only provides much-needed relief to taxpayers but also helps GHMC address its revenue shortfall.
With arrears running into thousands of crores, this initiative is expected to encourage compliance while easing financial burdens on property owners.
As the March 31 deadline approaches, taxpayers are urged to take advantage of this opportunity and clear their dues promptly.
